A Rich History of Tennis and Community

A Legacy of Tennis Since 1972

From humble beginnings to the vibrant club it is today, Lum Reserve Tennis Club has a proud history. Below are some key moments in our journey

17 October 1972

The first Annual General Meeting was held at St. Matthews Hall, where the club’s founding committee was elected. The club’s name was officially decided as Lum Reserve Tennis Club, and work began to establish it as a cornerstone of the local community.

The first circular was sent out to members, marking the beginning of construction. The goal was to build six courts with the help of Waverley Council and the community. A cooperative was formed to raise funds, and the initial courts were built at a cost of around $10,000.

13 October 1973

The courts were officially opened, with the first clubhouse being nothing more than a wooden shed. This humble beginning laid the foundation for the thriving tennis community we know today.

Lum Reserve Tennis Club

23 August 1972

The idea for Lum Reserve Tennis Club was born at a meeting of the Waverley Meadows Progress Association. Keith Blyth led the charge to form a steering committee with fellow tennis enthusiasts. After considering several potential sites, Lum Reserve was chosen as the home for the club, largely because it was backed by Keith’s own property.
